Following are some of the denominational outreach ministries supported by Cypress Creek Christian Church:
Disciples Rice Fund
Two or three times a year, a shipment of about 40,000 pounds of rice is made from Houston to the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The cost for the rice and transportation for each trip is about $6,000. Like the miracle of the loaves and fishes, small amounts of money from many different sources grows into the needed funds whenever a call comes for more rice.
The Coastal Plains Area (of which Cypress Creek Christian is a member congregation) serves as the collection agent for the Disciples Rice Fund. The Rev Feliberto Pereira of the Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries distributes the rice. When the program began, it primarily fed Central American refugees. Here's a recent update from Rev Periera about how the rice is distributed:
- Refugees at the facility - a fluctuating number
- Casa Betel - an orphanage in Matamoros housing about 120 people
- Bible Institute in Monterrey - about 20-30 people
- Churches who put the rice in 2-lb bags for distribution to the poor in the communities of Los Fresnos, Matamoros, and the Rio Grande Valley District.
The next shipment will be the first week of September. If you are interested in keeping this miracle alive and continuing to feed people who have the lowest per capita income, send you contribution to:
